Ecosystems are Made Up Of Living and Non-living Things

Directions: Read the passage on ecosystems and answer questions at the end. Remember to use complete sentences with the correct punctuation.

Scientists group everything on Earth as living or non-living.

Non-living could be rocks, water, or air.

Living things could be fish, birds, and you.

All living things live in a habitat. A habitat is a place that provides living things with oxygen, water, food, shelter, and everything else.

First Nations and Metis believe that everything is related and each has a responsibility. For example, if we take sweetgrass from Mother Earth, we need to give something in return. First Nations usually place tobacco before removing the sweetgrass. First Nations also believe that the rocks, people, and rain have a spirit.

The seventh generation is about a teaching that has been passed from our ancestors. We have a responsibility to Mother Earth.  We cannot simply think of ourselves and our survival. Each generation has a responsibility.
