 The Effects of outliers on average Here is a review of what you have learned already: What are mean, median, and mode? They are measures of central tendency or averages. What is the mean of a set of numbers? It is the sum of data values divided by the number of data values.  What is the median of a set of numbers? It is the middle number when numbers are arranged in order. What if there is an even number of numbers? The median is the mean of the two middle numbers. What is the mode of a set of numbers? It is the number that occurs most often. Is there always one mode? No, there may be more than one mode or there may be no mode.  What is the range of a set of numbers?
