Mean, Median, Mode

Please watch video on  Mean, Median, and Mode. We are only focusing on Mean and Mode today.

When solving problems, you may use a calculator. 

Definitions:

Definition of Mean: THE AVERAGE OF ALL NUMBERS: ARRANGE ALL THE NUMBERS FROM LEAST TO GREATEST, THEN YOU DIVIDE BY THE NUMBER OF NUMBERS.

FORMULA:  SUM OF TERMS             =  MEAN

                       NUMBER OF TERMS

Example:   9,4,3,4 rearrange the numbers from lowest to highest

                  3,4,4,9

                   Add all the numbers together, 3+4+4+9= 20

                    Count all the numbers we have altogether, which is 4

Now divide 20= 5

                     4

The mean is 4. 

Definition of Mode: the number that occurs most often.

example: 3,4,4,9.   What number do you see often? 

                                     4

                                The mode here is 4 because it appears more than once.
