 The Effects of outliers on average Here is a review of what you have learned already: What are mean, median, and mode? They are measures of central tendency or averages. What is the mean of a set of numbers? It is the sum of data values divided by the number of data values.  What is the median of a set of numbers? It is the middle number when numbers are arranged in order. What if there is an even number of numbers? The median is the mean of the two middle numbers. What is the mode of a set of numbers? Median and Range

 Today's lesson is all about median and range.  Median : is the middle number in a given set of data. example: 9,5,6,8,3 Step 1: Rearrange the numbers from least to greatest. Step 2: 3,5,6,8,9 Step 3: Cross off the numbers starting from left, then right, left then right, until you come up with only 1 number 3,5 ,6, 8,9   In my case I underlined and made the numbers darker. So, the middle number here is 6.  The median is the #6. In some situations there maybe more than 1 number. If there are two middle numbers, you add both of them and divide by 2 to get your median. ex. 4,1,7,6,2,8 Step 1: Rearrange the numbers from least to greatest.              1,2,4,6,7,8 Step 2: Cross off the numbers starting from the left to right, left, to right.
